Tennessee Home from Scratch

Yes, Beth....that is your bread. Since I am here at your computer, I thought that I would borrow your photograph of bread b/c this entry is all about being in your home :-)

The drive: long windy, drop offs, no shoulders, crazy folks who enjoy driving over 80mph around long, curvy roads with no shoulder and steep dropoffs. yikes.

THE FIRST NIGHT:

First thing that I noticed when I came through the door was how wonderful it smells in here. You showed me your Magnolia blooms set out on the table. Candles were lit everywhere and you were in mid process of baking a homemade Apple pie. Even the crust was homemade. I went about peeling apples to insure that the task would be done before bedtime so that I could have a piece (confesses my selfish motivations). MMmmmmm well worth it :-) Any more apples to peel and slice?

The kids ran around outside and watched a bit of Narnia. T~ stayed awake for the first time at Aunt Beth's. He was playing cards with the grownups after we put the kiddos to bed. We are planning a game of RISK.

Beth: You have been great, and easy to talk to, as usual. Walking through your home the second time, with no hurricane on my heels and with my kiddos this time made an enormous difference for me. I feel so more relaxed than I expected. You have a beautiful home with sentimental, lovely items all around that make it so cozy. good taste.

Chris: Wow Yummie FOOD. thanks for feeding us. WHOA water slide that'd cost a pretty penny from Wal Mart if you were not so creative and resourceful and didn't make (from scratch) one twice as good as the banana peel yellow ones the store sells.

N~: You have been a super busy boy, playing with my boys that I have barely seen you yet. They are so lucky to have you for a cousin.

B~: awww you gave me your hand- sewn kitty cat! I'll take a photo of it and post it on here soon.

Samson: you're grrreat puppy...thanks for licking my hands.

What I Like

I LIKE the SUMMER TIME. I like it when the LIBRARY, at my new job, is waiting for me to organize it. I like that I am getting to TRAVEL this summer and see my SISTER. I like that my SOUL FRIEND Alison is only less than four weeks away from my EMBRACES. I like when I am told that my EFFORT is finally paying off. I like when, at church, the PRAYER that is being prayed over you is completely right on and can be applied to the exact situation in your life even though you do not know the person praying for you. I like it when FRIENDS talk to you like they are shooting straight from the hip and tell you just exactly what is on their mind and in their thoughts. I like it when my baby girl CURLS UP beside me. I like afternoons when I STAY IN ALL DAY and wait to sign for a PACKAGE. I like having my tasks at a point of COMPLETION. I like reading a NOVEL that is 897 pages long, not including the two sources quoted pages. I like NO MAKEUP when my complexion is finally clear enough to go bare. I like HUMID MORNINGS when the birds are waking up and singing before they get breathless with the increasingly sultry atmosphere of MISSISSIPPI. I like RESTING in a quiet, apart place with the Lord sheltering me in a state of COMPLETE FORGIVENESS. I like that my 13 year old boy is a CLEAN CUT KID who is beginning to feel mature and responsible because his cell phone has his most used business phone numbers programmed into it ~ Pizza Hut, Dominoes, and GameStop. I like that my younger brother J~ is all nervous while getting himself ready to register for the railroad track of COLLEGE after all those years, during his mania, that he criticized me for using the system. I like when my Mom is QUIET while we are driving, that she is finally comfortable with the silence. I like receiving E-mails and CHATTING with folks from all around the world. I like when my BOYFRIEND uses the word APLOMB to say what I am. I like NOODLE. I like SECRET languages. I like it when the sun streams through WINDOWS. I like the colour BURGUNDY so much that it comes to mind any time I talk about what I like. I like when my boy ~Ant tells me his DREAMS or asks me to read to him. I like talking on the TELEPHONE and letting VOICES float into my soul through my ears :-) I like DELIVERANCE from demons. I like COMMON SENSE and LOGIC when it tangles up with IRONY. I like when I listen to MUSIC or a song and it feels like my own soul, and when a friend can find a song that completely fits our circumstances. I like it when a MUSE knocks on my mind. I like when a person is so CONFIDENT of himself/herself (those are BALCONY PEOPLE) that he/she does not have to knock you to the basement, or at least onto a step of the stairs down. I like when the ENTIRE day feels like the first thing in the morning.

I am From...

(this photo)

I am from orchidee coloured tassels, glass beads,
banana apples,
from Hostess Twinkies and Martha White self-rising flour.

I am from the communal harvest cabins with pastel chalk drawings on the walls
…being resourceful, remaining contagious,
and from morning tiny chimes.

I am from the red wood pine tree, magnolias, linen, the lichen, foxgloves,
from yellow dust specks in the window frame.

I am from No Birthday Presents,
stubborn defiance,
from Julia Lou, Lee Chandler and Grandma Holder.

I am from the determine-minded traveling
from controlling environments.

From “Sugar is just like a drug.”
From “Read with a Dictionary beside you.”

I am from Vacation Bible School, Speaking in tongues,
From outdoor Sermons at the break of Dawn.

I’m from Oklahoma City, Ireland, and tomato gravy with biscuits.
From the when Julia walked out on her family,
Peeked through the window at husband and her children eating in the kitchen, the when she returned she found cleared countertops.
I am from my Great Traveling Aunt Dorothy who patented a slide ruler.

I am from chifforobes, paper boxes, bookshelves, plastic cases, vases, stuffed animals, books, drawings, pressed flowers, and leather bound journals.

Where I am from is worth collecting
all flecks of gold floating in space
from the LORD’s super nova stars exploding into ONE WORD.

*okay ... I will post the link where I obtained the format to this poem, juuust as soon as I refind it in my favorites. *
